THRIVE Winter Conference Takeaways
Whether you moonlight as a speaker or major in it, one thing is certain: you need to must invest in new knowledge.
Attending conferences is #1 on my Top 3 Ways to Invest in Yourself list.
Not only do you gain new insights, but you come into proximity with people are who doing the craft at an elite level.
And that’s why I ponied up the $1,200 fee to spend a full day in San Antonio last weekend.
Here’s my mindset for events like this:
If I walk away with one tip that grows my business, the registration fee was worth it.
Here are three gems that I picked up to help grow our speaking business in 2023. 👇
1. Reinvention. Reinvention. Reinvention.
Can you guess what the average life of a company that started in the early 1900’s was?
Don’t worry…
The answer to the question is 75 years.
Now, guess how long the average company stays in business today: 7 years.
👀
Yep. 7 years.
In Dr. Nadya Zhexembayeva’s kickoff keynote, she repeated one piece of advice.
Create a talk that helps companies reinvent themselves.
The ability to navigate a new world (think AI, hybrid work and disrupted supply chains) is a survival skill thst companies must hone in order to keep the lights on.
This is where my 5P Rule comes in:
People Pay People Who Solve Pain Points
Whether you’re a leadership, women’s empowerment or marketing speaker, create a talk that leverages your expertise to help companies navigate reinvention.
2. Feed the Social Media Machine for New Business
What social media platforms are you on?
Twitter?
Facebook?
LinkedIn?
Instagram?
Myspace? 🤓
Regardless of where you spend your social media minutes, you should be sharing content that lets people know that you speak.
Examples:
Keynote talk titles
Pictures of you speaking
Screenshots of glowing reviews
This content piques interest and interest leads to deals.
3. Diversify. Diversify. Diversify.
There are two ways to view your speaking business:
➡️ ⬅️ As An End (the speech is the final destination)
➡️ ♻ As a Means to More Ends (the speech is a layover on a multi-stop trip)
As you think of your ZOE (Zone of Expertise), what other products or services could you build?
Online courses
1-on-1 coaching
Group coaching
Workshops
E-books
Traditional books
The options are endless and growing.
When you build adjacent products, the keynote becomes a gateway to monetize your knowledge beyond the stage.
And this diversification enables you to whether the ups and downs of the speaking calendar.
