How Can I Get Paid More for My Keynotes?
A speaker whoās been stuck at the $1K speaking level reached out to ask me what she could do to climb the fee ladder.
In an earlier post, I broke down the The Speakerās Hierarchy of Fees.
Now, letās talk about how to scale that ladder. šš¾
1. Turn up your Social Media LinkedIn Volume
Iāll keep preaching this sermon until the day I die: LinkedIn is where speaking careers are made.
Not the App formerly Known as Twitter
Not Instagram
Definitely not TikTok (Iām pretty sure this is not a TikTok crowd š)
Itās LinkedIn.
This is the place where people are primed to do business.
If you want to reach the people who hire speakers, you need to consistently show people that you speak.

If youāre afraid of self-promotion, then youāll stay at the $1K level (or below). š¤·āāļø
2. Upsell Yourself at the End of Your Talk
When I first started speaking, people would come up to me after my talk and ask questions like, āIs this what you do?ā
Iād look at them like this š because my brain was screaming, āIsnāt that what I just did?ā
But you know what?
Good marketers assume their prospects donāt know and donāt care about their product.
Andā¦.
Highly paid speakers assume the audience doesnāt know they are professional speakers.
Solution: In the last two minutes, put up a slide with your email and cell number and ask people to hire you.
Then, stay in the room and talk to as many people as you can, and tell them the exact same thing.
Thatās it.
Thatās how you turn one talk into ten talks. šš¾
3. Write a š
There are absolutely 0ļøā£ barriers to entry for writing a book.
You donāt have to wait on Penguin to bless you.
You can hire a self-publishing company to edit, design and print your book (heck, some of them will even ghostwrite it for you).
Without a doubt, launching Call An Audible in 2016 was the most impactful move in my speaking career. It elevated my name recognition and speaking fees.
If youāre serious about playing the long game in this profession, writing a book should be at the top of your to-do list.
