The All-Inclusive Fee Approach
Raise your hand if you’ve ever been to one of those “all-inclusive” resorts. 🙋🏽♀️
I’m not a fan of those types of places (if I’m traveling to another country, the last thing I want to do is surround myself with more Americans).
But, my wife and I also have five kids.
So, that means there are times when I end up in places like this. 🙈
Why You Should Bundle Your Travel & Lodging Cost into One Amount
I adhere to the SYSTEM approach when it comes to business:
Save
Yourself
Time
Stress
Energy
Money
The goal is to build systems that give you more time, energy and money.
Speaking 💎: When you quote an investment level to a client, make it an all-inclusive number.
How to Estimate Your FLAG (Food, Lodging, Airfare and Ground Transportation)
FLAG stands for (Food, Lodging, Airfare and Ground Transportation).
These categories are the major drivers of your non-speaking fees.
Let’s walk through a step-by-step process to generate your FLAG.
Step 1: Calculate Your Average Airfare Amount
✈️ Airfare
Take your departure city and run the numbers on how much it would cost you to fly to three major US cities that are reasonably far from you
Use Google Flights to run these numbers
Example: I fly from Austin, Texas. So, I look at flights to Seattle, New York and Miami
On average, I can fly anywhere in the country for $900
Step 2: Hotel, Motel, Holiday Inn…
🏨 Lodging
Look at one-night stays in the same cities as above ☝️
I’m a loyal Marriott Bonvoy member 😁, so I use the Marriott website
On average, my hotel costs would be $450
Step 3: Ground Transportation + Food
🌮 + 🚘 Food + Ground
Calculate the Lyft/Uber costs from the airport to the hotel (and back)
Then estimate how much you spend on meals and multiply by 3
This number comes to $250 for me
Step 4: Add ‘Em Up
My FLAG = $1,600
Step 5: Speaking Fee + FLAG
So, I take the $1,600 and add that to my speaking fee and the sum is my total investment level

Always look for ways to reduce stress for you and the client.
Quoting a single number (without the hassle of submitting receipts after the event) is a win-win for everyone.
