While all of the ChatGPT hoopla was going viral earlier this year, I was giving it the Resting Stink Face (RSF).
How many times have we been promised that artificial intelligence was poised to revolutionize our lives?
And how many times did we get disappointed?
Well….
After playing with ChatGPT for the past four months, I’m ready to admit what you should already know.
This tool is a GAMECHANGER.
In today’s newsletter, I’ll give you an example of how I’ve used ChatGPT and provide some tips on how you can leverage it to boost your speaking business.
Where Is That Again?
A small school district in Connecticut reached out via my speaking page for a keynote quote to their entire staff.
I had never heard of the town…
My First Thought: Let me Google them.
My Second Thought: Let’s see what ChatGPT knows about them. 🤓
So, I visited ChatGPT and typed:
Provide historical and current information on Highland Park School District in Connecticut (I’m using a fictional name for confidentiality purposes)
Within ten seconds I had a complete overview of the district. 👀
Then, I started getting excited and typed:
Has Highland Park School District hired any consultants or speakers in the past ten years?
This is where it gets REALLY interesting.
ChatGPT provided a list of three speakers and two consulting groups the district has hired.
I sent that information to my virtual assistant, and we created a proposal.
Within a week, the contract was signed. 👊🏾
3 Ways to Use ChatGPT in Your Speaking Business
1. Background Research on Clients
Google searches are great, but scrolling through weblinks is so 1990.
Here are some examples of ChatGPT background research that I conduct before talks.
What major issues has <Insert Name of Company Here> faced during the last ten years?
Tell me about the CEO of <Insert Name of Company Here>.
What should be the top three business priorities for <Insert Name of Company Here> over the next five years?
🚨Remember: If you’re going to mention something in a keynote, make sure you triple-check it and NEVER trust any ChatGPT output as truth. Always cross-check its results.
2. Brand-Building with ChatGPT
Take your Zone of Expertise (ZOE) and let’s have some fun.
Let’s say it’s leadership.
Better yet, let’s say it’s women’s leadership for nonprofits (the more specific, the better).
Now, you need to build a brand around this topic, but where do you start?
What are the top five issues facing women leaders of nonprofits?
Then, take those issues and type the following:
What would be a good LinkedIn post about <Insert Pain Point>?
Now, let’s get wild. What you could do next is:
Step 1: Copy your caption from an Instagram or LinkedIn post
Step 2: And then ask ChatGPT:
“Write three options for Instagram posts <Insert Pain Point> and copy this writing style: <Paste Your Instagram/LinkedIn Copy From a Previous Post>
3. Competitor Research
Trying to figure out how much you should charge?
Here are some sample queries:
Who are the top speakers in <Insert Your ZOE>?
How much do each of these speakers charge for keynotes?
Who’s the highest paid keynote speaker in <Insert Your ZOE>?

😊 ChatGPT can save you a lot of time, stress and money.
🙅🏼♂️ Don’t copy/paste any content from ChatGPT and push it as your own. I know, I know…I can hear you, “But coach, everybody’s doin’ it.” Well, as we wade deeper and deeper into the AI waters, the people who hold true to some semblance of ethics will rise to the top (at least I hope so 🤞🏾).
🧐 Always check what ChatGPT spits out. There’s a reason why this disclaimer sits at the bottom of the app.
