Why You’re Not Getting Booked (And How to Fix It Without a Complete Overhaul 🧰)
What You Do After the Talk Matters Most
After a decade in the game, I still get a high as soon as the crowd starts clapping at the end of my talk.
It never gets old.
But here’s the real secret: the biggest win isn’t just the applause. It’s what you do after the fact that turns that one-time audience into long-term connections.
Let’s talk about how to make the most of your moment on stage—before, during, and especially after—so you leave with more than a check and shot of dopamine.
1. Don’t Wing It—Prep Ahead of Time
Before you even step on stage, make a plan.
If you want people to stay connected after the event, give them a reason and an easy way to do it.
I can’t stress that last point too much…
MAKE. IT. EASY.
Maybe you’ve got a killer free resource to offer, like a downloadable guide or your slide deck. Maybe it’s a 15-minute strategy call. Whatever it is, have it ready.
Bonus tip: create a landing page for your offer and stick a QR code on your last slide. Make it brain-dead simple for people to opt in.
No one wants to go hunting for your email after the fact.
2. Catch ‘Em in the Moment
Okay, now you’re live.
You’re delivering the goods.
You’re in your zone.
But don’t wait until the end to bring up your CTA—talk about it during your presentation. Let folks know what they’ll get and exactly how to grab it.
A few easy ways to collect contacts on the spot:
QR codes on your slides
Event app networking features
Old-school sign-up sheet (I still use this for very small events)
Good conversation + business card exchange (Yes, some people still have business cards, and so should you. Make sure you jot down a note on the card so you remember who’s who.)
And most importantly: Don’t bolt for the door when you’re done.
Hang out during the breaks.
Chat.
Smile.
Be human 😁 .
3. The Follow-Up is Everything
The real magic happens after the event. This is where a lot of most people drop the ball—and where you’re going to shine.
Log those contacts fast – Don’t let those business cards or app contacts gather dust. Within 24–48 hours, plug them into your CRM, email platform, or spreadsheet. Tag them by event or topic to keep things tidy.
Send a personal message – No mass blasts. Reach out with a short email or LinkedIn DM that mentions how you met and what you talked about.
Go the extra mile for VIPs – Met a potential client or dream collaborator? Follow up with something extra, like a handwritten note.
4. Keep the Relationship Going
Once someone’s on your list, don’t ghost them. Keep showing up in helpful, human ways.
Share relevant content—blog posts, articles, your next webinar invite.
Send newsletters that are actually worth reading.
Engage on LinkedIn or wherever your people hang out.
Consistency builds trust. And trust builds a network that opens doors long after the event is over.
Don’t Wait…
September will be here before you know it…
