3 TED Talks That Will Improve Your Speaking Skills
Call me ol’ school , but I’m still a sucker for a good TED Talk.
I know, I know…there are a lot of horrible bad TED Talks out there, but I keep a running list of the ones that are gamechangers.
The three below are each saved to my phone. 📲
I’ll watch a few minutes before hitting the stage…
Sometimes, I just listen to the audio while I’m driving…
They are that good.
Let’s dive in. 👊🏾
1. Julian Treasure – How to Speak so That People want to Listen
Write this acronym - HAIL: Honesty, Authenticity, Integrity and Love - on your bathroom mirror.
The section on the “Seven Deadly Sins of Speaking” is a goldmine for effective communication.
2. Simon Lancaster – Speak Like a Leader
Here’s the TLDR: make complex ideas simple and serve them with a dash of humor and some Tabasco.
Also, take note of Lancaster’s speaking style. His energy and pacing are worth the watch.
3. Richard Greene – The 7 Secrets of the Greatest Speakers in History
I’m going to spoil part of Greene’s talk because it is the section I keep revisiting :
“Secret Number 4: What most people do is they throw so much data out trying to prove that they’re smart trying to get all the content out. Words are the 7%. What is important is what is that one thing that you want to leave people with. What is that headline? That’s what makes a great speech and that’s what we’re talking about today.”
That’s it, Familia!
